Gender and History in Modern South Asia Term Paper - 1
Sexual orientation and History in Modern South Asia - Term Paper Example It merits thinking about what others see as being Chinese citizenship instead of the point of view of the Chinese themselves. A portion of the antiquated practices by Chinese individuals have confronted firm dismissal particularly through the span of the twentieth century by residents who are accepted to be from China. During the realm decisions, conventional ceremonies and practices were normal among Chinese people group however social disintegration has been enormously apparent particularly during the principal half of the twentieth century. In the nineteenth century, Chinese apparently upholded and regard their social practices, for example, marriage and entombment customs. Be that as it may, things have fundamentally changed during the twentieth century where customs have been significantly dismissed by the Chinese. Rather, they are going to present day life by surrendering indigenous methods of dressing and practices for the cutting edge lifestyle. Chinese individuals have exper ienced various difficulties as they attempt to change from government to present day lifestyle yet by the assistance of taught individuals in the general public, powerful strategies have been utilized to free China from colonialism. The country of China was quite a while prior composited of little networks until when change occurred over the nineteenth and twentieth hundreds of years. The sort of initiative that was set up was very not the same as the present one since centralization was by and by rather than decentralized administration rehearsed today. The leader of the state was a ruler the Son of Heaven who held the focal situation of universe (Harrison 2). Other than the ruler, there existed an administration instruction which, had qualities that unmistakably depicted the presence of present day China. Notwithstanding, it is important the head was then seen as a world yet not as a nation. In any case, this didn't imply that the Qing courts didn't perceive the nearness of different countries since they could have an arrangement with outsiders just that the exchanges would never be permitted to delete Chinese culture.â

Does Rosemary Actually Improve Your Memory and Cognition
Does Rosemary Actually Improve Your Memory and Cognition Brain Health Brain Food Print Does Rosemary Actually Improve Your Memory and Cognition? The Research Behind the Idea of Rosemary as a Cognitive Enhancer By Esther Heerema, MSW facebook twitter linkedin Esther Heerema, MSW, shares practical tips gained from working with hundreds of people whose lives are touched by Alzheimers disease and other kinds of dementia. Learn about our editorial policy Esther Heerema, MSW Updated on February 08, 2020 Judith Haeusler/ Getty Images More in Brain Health Brain Food Mental Exercises Healthy Aging There are many theories that suggest different ways of improving memory or thinking more clearly. One of those is the idea that adding rosemary to your food or water, or even breathing in its scent, can give your brain a boost. But, is this concept supported by research? What Is Rosemary? First, its important to understand what rosemary is. Rosemary (scientific name: rosmarinus officinalis) is an herb with needle-like leaves. Its a perennial, meaning that once you plant it, it should re-grow every year when the whether is warm enough for it to do so. Its native to Asia and the Mediterranean, but it is grown in the United States, as well.?? Rosemary is related to the mint family of plants. When it blooms, its flower are white, purple, pink or deep blue. Rosemary is often used as a spice in food, including soups, stew, meat, chicken, fish and other Mediterranean food, and it has a somewhat bitter flavor. Some people also enjoy tea flavored with rosemary. Rosemary is also used as a perfume and added to shampoo, conditioner and soap. Rosemary as a Cognitive Enhancer? Heres what research has found about rosemary and its effects on cognitive function. Rosemary Consumption One study that involved 28 older adults found that a consumption of a low dose, but not a higher dose, of dried rosemary powder, was associated with significantly improved memory speed.?? Rosemary Aroma Some research looked at how the smell of rosemary affects cognition. Participants were exposed to the aroma of rosemary while performing visual processing tasks and serial subtraction tasks. With higher amounts of the rosemary aroma, both speed and accuracy in the tasks increased. Interestingly, mood also improved with exposure to the rosemary aroma.?? Research that was presented at the Annual Conference of the British Psychological Society also highlighted the benefits of the aroma of rosemary. Research included 40 school-age children who were placed either in a room that contained the rosemary aroma or another room without an aroma. The results, which have not yet been published by a peer-reviewed journal, found that those in the rosemary aroma room demonstrated higher memory scores than those in the room without the rosemary scent.?? Rosemary Essential Oil Another study was performed with 53 students who were between 13 and 15 years old. Researchers found that their memory of images and numbers improved when the essential oil of rosemary was sprayed in the room.?? Rosemary Water One study involved 80 adults who drank 250 milliliters of rosemary water or mineral water. Those who drank the rosemary water demonstrated improved cognitive functioning as compared to those who drank the mineral water.?? Studies in Mice and Rats Several other studies have been published in peer reviewed journals about the effect of rosemary consumption, with results that fairly consistently show benefits in memory associated with rosemary. However, those studies were performed with rats and mice, and it is unknown if those benefits would hold true to humans. Thus, theyre not included in this summary of research. Why Might Rosemary Benefit the Brain? Its unknown for sure why there may be a benefit from rosemary, but one theory is that rosemary appears to have some antioxidant properties which may offer some healing for the damage in our bodies known as free radicals. Another idea cited by Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is that rosemary appears to lower anxiety, which in turn, may increase the ability to concentrate.?? A Word From Verywell While rosemary shows some promise for boosting our brain power, its important to check with your doctor before you begin supplementing your diet with it. It does have the potential to interact with other medicines including blood thinners, ACE inhibitors (for treating high blood pressure), lithium, diuretics (such as Lasix) and diabetes medications. Additionally, the case for rosemary needs to be strengthened by additional research in humans that demonstrates consistent cognitive benefits.

Dorian Gray Fear or Corruption - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 800 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2019/05/13 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: The Picture of Dorian Gray Essay Did you like this example? In the book, The Picture of Dorian Gray, it is believed by many people that Lord Henry has corrupted Dorian Gray, but this may not be true. Many believe, that Dorian Gray hates Lord Henry because he is alone in the world. Having someone just like himself scares him; Therefore, Dorian Gray lets Lord Henry believe that he has corrupted him, but why? It is possible that Dorian Gray wants to have someone in the world like him. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Dorian Gray: Fear or Corruption" essay for you Create order Dorian Gray believes that he is alone in the world because he is a narcissist. He feels that no one understands who he is. As soon as hes at this vulnerable moment, he meets Lord Henry. Dorian Gray feels alone in the world and wants a companion who is just like him. As soon as Dorian was thinking these thoughts, Lord Henry came. This was the perfect timing and Dorian realized that Lord Henry could be his companion. Dorian is alone in the world, and that makes him become cruel to Lord Henry, when he realizes that Lord Henry is just like him. Cruelty equals loneliness, Oscar Wilde says. As you know, the beginning of the book starts off with Basil painting a portrait of Dorian Gray and Lord Henry wanting to meet him, and eventually ends up corrupting him. This may not be the case. We can see that Dorian Gray is scared of Lord Henry from the beginning. He says, Have you really a very bad influence, Lord Henry? As bad as Basil says? (19). It seems as though Dorian Gray is intrigued in knowing if Lord Henrys influence is cruel, its as if Dorian Gray wants it to be bad, so he has a reason to be scared and to hate him. Lord Henry responds to Dorian Gray by saying, There is no such thing as a good influence, Mr. Gray. All influence is immoral immoral from the scientific point of view. (20). Lord Henry is saying that there is no such thing as bad influence, the only reason people believe this is because no matter what influence you are given, it will take you away from who you really are. With these quotes, Dorian is testing Lord Henry to see if he is just like Dorian and i n the end, Dorian is happy that he has finally, found someone just like him. Then, Lord Henry goes on to talk about temptation and continues to corrupt Dorian Gray. With this, Dorian responds with, Stop! You bewilder me. I dont know what to say ( ) Let me think. Or, rather, let me try not to think. (21). In class, we spoke about how at this point, everything Lord Henry has said, was too much for Dorian, and he does not understand anything that Lord Henry is saying. But instead, Dorian was testing Lord Henry to see if his mind thought just like Dorians. Dorian acts like he did not understand what Lord Henry says because it is all part of his plan to make Lord Henry believe that he is corrupting him. Another point in the book is when Lord Henry and Dorian Gray are discussing Sibyl Vane, Dorians part-time lover. Lord Henry says, People like you ( ) what are your actual relations with Sibyl Vane? ( ) it is only the sacred things that are worth touching. (51). To which Dorian replies, Harry! Sibyl Vane is sacred! (51). Dorian is acting like what Lord Henry just sa id is insane; having sex with a virgin. Lord Henry goes on to say, It is only the sacred things that are worth touching, Dorian. (51). Again, we see here that Lord Henry tries to corrupt Dorian, and Dorian allows him to do so, with the fact in mind that Dorian knew all of this already, and he continued to let Lord Henry believe that he has corrupted him. Next, we wonder why Dorian Gray would allow Lord Henry to believe that he has corrupted him. Perhaps because he felt as if he was alone in the world. That no one understood who he was a narcissist. When Sibyl Vane dies, Dorian Gray runs to Lord Henry to confide in him. He says, why is it that I cannot feel this tragedy as much as I want to? I dont think I am heartless. Do you? ( ) I dont like that explanation, Harry, but I am glad you dont think I am heartless. I am nothing of the kind. I know I am not. And yet I must admit that this thing that has happened does not affect me as it should. It seems to me to be simply like a wonderful ending to a wonderful play. It has all the terrible beauty of a Greek tragedy, a tragedy in which I took a great part, but by which I have not been wounded. (96).

Transplant Shock Caring for Newly Replanted Trees
Tree seedlings that have lived several years and are growing under comfortable cultural conditions, develop and thrive on a careful, natural balancing of leaf surface and root growth. For an undisturbed, healthy tree, the root system is normally very shallow. Even the major structural roots grow almost horizontally. With an adequate supply of water and nutrients, a seedling or sapling will continue healthy growth until roots become confined to a container or other barrier. In most cases, the root system extends out and beyond the spread of the branches and a considerable portion of the roots are cut when the tree is moved. Transplant Shock Transplanting a tree seedling or sapling can be the most stressful time in its entire life. Moving a tree from its original comfort zone to a new location should be done under the right conditions while preserving most of the life-supporting root system. Remember, when transplanted to a new location, the plant has the same number of leaves to support but will have a smaller root system to supply water and nutrients. Major stress-related problems can often result from this inevitable loss of roots, especially feeder roots. This is called transplant shock and results in increased vulnerability to drought, insects, diseases and other problems. Transplant shock will remain a planting concern until the natural balance between the root system and the leaves of the transplanted tree is restored. Of all newly planted trees that do not survive, most die during this very important root-establishment period. The health of a tree and its ultimate survival can be assured if practices that favor the establishment of the root system become the ultimate gold standard. This takes persistence and involves regular care during the first three years following transplanting. Symptoms of Tree Transplant Shock Symptoms of tree transplanting shock are immediately obvious in trees that are moved in full leaf or when leaves form after the replanting. Deciduous tree leaves will wilt and if corrective steps are not immediately taken, may eventually turn brown and drop. Conifer needles turn a pale green or blue-green color before turning brittle, browning and dropping off. These browning symptoms begin first on the youngest (newest) leaves which are more delicate and sensitive to water loss. The very first symptoms, in addition to leaf yellowing or browning, can be leaf rolling, curling, wilting and scorching around the leaf edges. Trees that are not immediately killed can show dieback of the branch tips. Avoid Transplant Shock So, when you transplant your tree, a very delicate balance is altered. This is especially true when transplanting wild trees from yards, fields or woods. Your chances of success are improved if you root prune the tree a year or two before the actual transplant. This simply means to sever with a spade the roots around the tree at a comfortable distance away from the trunk. Root pruning causes tree roots to grow in a more compact form which in turn allows you to get more of the total root system when you dig up your ball. The more roots you get, the better your chances will be for tree survival. Dont be tempted to prune tree branches and foliage! A healing, growing root system is very much dependent on a full contingent of leaves. For this reason, pruning transplanted trees to compensate for root loss is not recommended. Do: Leave the entire top intact to favor rapid development of a supporting root system. Dont: Forget to provide supplemental watering which is critical for avoiding moisture stress. Keeping foliage moist is a great way to prevent transplant shock. Spritz water on tree leaves to cool and reduce water loss from foliar surfaces. Anti-transpiration sprays, such as WiltPruf or Foli-Gard, are also effective in reducing water loss. But remember that these materials are latex/wax-based and can temporarily interfere with food production within the leaf. Do not overuse these anti-desiccants and always follow label directions. The best way to reduce transplant shockââ¬â only plant hand dug or bare root trees when they are dormant!

On the contrary, Republicans tend to favor the Supply Side theory. This theory suggests economic stimulation can be achieved by focusing on increasing supply rather than demand. In other words, if companies make it, consumers buy it. Though the arguments tend to start with differences between both political parties, the two parties do have some things in common. Both Democrats and Republicans want to win, and win by a landslide. Democrats and Republicans both elect a c andidate to represent their party in local and national elections. Along with wanting to please the public, both parties advocate their policies.
